Week 91 - "Two hundred and fifty?! You're crazy. You oughta be locked up. You, too!"

Hey, everyone! This week's quote is from Steve McQueen's Captain Hilts in  The Great Escape . I guess there's a couple reasons it works. It's in the context of Hilts asking Roger (and I think Mack) about how many people they're planning on getting out of the camp through the tunnels they'll be building. It's a bit of an overwhelming job to accomplish, and overwhelmed is one of the ways I've been feeling in the past few days. Also, we received news two or three weeks ago that we were going to be bringing the total number of missionaries in the mission up to 250 this transfer. I think that number has decreased since, but we had a big influx this past transfer, I think, and we're going to have more in the next few weeks. There are going to be a lot of people training. Hopefully I'm not one of them, because I have plans for what Elder Washburn and I are going to do in the next few weeks, and ideally we'll be able to extend those plans into ...

Week 90 - "You'd like it. It's about a prison break."

Hey, everyone! This week's quite is from Andy Dufresne in  The Shawshank Redemption . I forget the actor's name. You'll find out why it's relevant later on. So today has been super good, which helps me feel that the week has been super good, and it has, but there were a few little rough patches. So to start, some of the blessings. The video Elder Grayson, Elder Douglass and Elder Day starred in has been performing really well. It's had about 6,500 views since it was posted, and we're going to boost it in the next day or two and see what happens to it. It's hard to tell with things like that how much of the success we experience is a direct result of it, but it's been exciting to see that people like it and that it's been well-received. I just posted it on Instagram, too, so if you would like to go and give it some love, that would be greatly appreciated. Week 89 - "These lights are just sucking the life force out of me! Suck-suck-suck-suck!"

Hey, everyone! The quote this week is from Tom Hanks' Joe in  Joe Versus the Volcano . I'm feeling pretty drained. I've also spent a lot of time in front of my computer, but I don't think the two are related. I guess we'll see next week. The quote kinda works. I keep having quotes come to mind in the middle of the week, and I forget to write them down, so there was probably a better one for this week that I just don't remember. So hopefully you'll be able to forgive me if I don't make much sense or this email is kind of disorganized--I'm feeling kind of fried. We got up this morning and played ultimate frisbee with another set of elders, and I definitely haven't been doing enough cardio lately. I feel kind of worn out,. We also sort of went all over the place today, and the past four days or so have been crazy busy, so I'm just chilling on the recliner at the apartment right now. I'm beat. Anyway, all that is to say that I h...

Week 88 - "I can do this. This is something I'm good at."

Hi, everyone! This week's quote is from Shia LaBeouf's Francis Ouimet in "The Greatest Game Ever Played." His father objects to his wanting to play golf because he feels it isn't an honorable profession, but Francis feels this is something he could make a life out of. By the way, I realized after I sent it that I didn't give any context for my quote from last week. It was from God (I don't know who voiced him) in "The Prince of Egypt," which obviously got it from Exodus. If you're not familiar with the Bible story, God says it when Moses finds the burning bush that God speaks to him out of. So this week has been pretty good. Things have all started to sort of blend together, and now that transfers are around the corner, it's really starting to occur to me just how little time I have left. Three transfers. 18 weeks. Four and a half months. That's it. And this transfer felt like it went by in about two or three weeks. I ...
