Week 102 - "The point is, you've gone nosedeaf. You're oblivious to your effect on other guests." "15 minutes. Pack your things, or we will pack them for you. Get the picture?"

Hello, everyone!

This week has been pretty good. The quote is from two people: the first is Casey Affleck, but I don't remember the name of his character. The second is from his brother in the movie, and I can't remember the name of the actor or the character. But anyway, it's the "Mormon twins" from the Ocean's movies, specifically Ocean's 13. In the scene they're posing as employees of Willy Bank's new casino-hotel, and they're kicking out a reviewer that they gave a disease to so he gives a bad review to Bank's hotel.

Anyway, all that is to say that I've caught something. It doesn't seem like it's COVID--I just have aches, soreness and a wet cough. No fever that I've detected. We think we know where we got it--we visited some members who said they had been sick recently, but not with COVID, so that's my best guess. Elder Washburn has it, too, but it seems like it's not hitting him quite as hard as it's hitting me. Also, the end is coming closer and closer, and I'm feeling like I have less and less time until the mission is over. So... hence the quote. Oh, also, because of the rising cases of sickness, the whole mission has been put on lockdown for the next week. No leaving the apartment unless it's to get groceries or to go to the church. Definitely no visiting other people in person. No visiting other missionaries. Only one companionship in the church at a time. Et cetera. So... I think that's probably got a lot of people bummed. I don't mind too much--we spend most of our time at the church anyway.

On that subject, we put together a trailer for the brand new series that our Facebook page is doing. All it is is just the How I Hear Him thing but with missionaries, but it's been pretty cool to hear people's testimonies and to cut them together into videos. We've got two actual episodes in the pipeline, and we've got 11 others slated to be released throughout the course of the transfer and a little bit after. We've got all the footage, now we just have to organize it and edit it all together, and a lot of the hard work is already done with the color correction and stuff that we did for the trailer. So we should be able to get them all done relatively quickly. We're excited for it. We're boosting it in the area, so we hope it helps people and grows their faith. It's supposed to be all focused on Christ and his influence in our life. The trailer is here, if you'd like to watch it.

If you keep an eye on the page, you should see the first video come out on the page at 5:30 Eastern Time
I probably mentioned it, but the mission has a new Instagram account, ledtolight, that I put the logo together for. It wasn't my design idea or anything but I just took what the other missionaries wanted and put it together. It turned out looking pretty good.

What else is there to talk about? We met with a new family that just showed up at the church a week or two ago and was like, "We want to get back into church." That was cool. We've had a good experience meeting with them. THey seem really nice. We also talked with a referral that came to us recently, and that was pretty neat. We had a lesson with her today. We reach out to all the referrals, but they don't always pan out, surprisingly. This is one of the first ones that has actually resulted in a lesson. So that's pretty sweet. We just taught her about how God is our Loving Heavenly Father and stuff. We'll teach her more in the coming weeks.

Maybe it's because I'm sick, but honestly, that's about all I can think of that's happened this week. There's a lot of just making sure things with Facebook pages and social media are running smoothly. That and editing fills up most of my time. That's probably how I'll be spending the large part of the next four and a half weeks. Which is fine, as long as it has an impact on people. I just want for it to mean something. I want for it to reach someone and help someone. If it doesn't, that'll be kind of sad. Still, we're trying to work with people on an individual basis, so hopefully we can still touch people's lives.

I'm really not sure what else to share, except that I love you all, and I'll look forward to seeing you soon, I guess. I'm trying not to think too much about it. But I'm going to have to start doing the My Plan course pretty soon here, so I'll get my fair share of thinking about it a lot in the next few weeks.

If you're reading this, I'd love to hear from you--I'd love to know what's going on in your life and stuff. Drop me a line if you're not too busy.

Elder Davis
